The self-catered 'DIY' booking is only available to NZ residents. You will be required to bring all your own food and drink to prepare yourselves in the cabin's kitchen or BBQ.

 

Booking Information

Our cabin sleeps 4, but accommodation for up to 8 guests is available. Contact us for pricing of groups with 5-8 people.
Please note there is a minimum stay of 2 nights. All public holiday weekends have a minimum stay of 3 nights.

Transfer Information

Your experience will begin with a scenic helicopter flight to get to the cabin as it is not accessible by road. 

Transfers include return transportation from the Helisika base (located on Taharua Road) or Taupō Airport. 

We have two helicopter choices depending on the amount of guests and equipment, the Hughes and the slightly larger Squirrel. 

 Below are the weight & passenger capabilities of each helicopter:

Cabin Terms and Conditions

Guest Requirements:

  • We welcome children seven years and older and charge the same rate as an adult.
  • Due to terrain, all guests must be fully mobile with a suitable level of fitness.
  • Guests must not be reliant on electricity/power supply for medical reasons.

Duration and Fly In/Out

  • A minimum stay of two nights is required.  All stays over public holidays require a minimum of a three night stay.
  • Availability of specific packages is subject to confirmation at the time of reservation.
  • Fly-in is at 2 pm, fly-out at 11 am unless otherwise arranged.
  • No Show: If guests have not arrived at the helicopter pick-up point within 1 hour of reservation time, they will be assumed to be a ‘no-show’, and their reservation cancelled. (Note: helicopters will not fly after dark.)
  • Our cancellation and no-show policies are strictly applied and we are unlikely to make any exceptions, irrespective of the cause.
  • In the case of severe weather helicopters will be unable to fly, this decision is made by the helicopter operator. We will endeavor to fly you in at the next safe and available opportunity during your booked stay.

Rates and Payment

  • Rates are quoted in New Zealand dollars. 15% Goods and Services Tax (GST) is included in all rates.
  • Payments can be made by direct credit or credit card (2% fee).
  • You will be sent an invoice 7 - 14 days after confirming your booking. Payment is due 60 days prior to your arrival
  • A $500 refundable bond is payable prior to arrival.  It will be refunded within 7 days of checkout provided there are no damages or breakages.

Cancellations

  • As a small exclusive cabin, late cancellations have a significant effect on us;
    • Cancellations made between 90-61 days prior to arrival will incur a transaction fee of NZ$250.00
    • Cancellations made between 60-30 days prior to arrival incur a 50% cancellation fee.
    • Cancellations made 29 days or less prior to arrival, and ‘no shows’ all incur a 100% cancellation fee.

Other Information

  • We strongly recommend the purchase of a travel insurance policy to mitigate the potential costs arising from unexpected changes or unforeseen disruption to travel plans, such as might be caused by adverse weather conditions or natural events, flight delays, illness, accident, personal injury, family emergency, or bereavement, which may cause you to cancel your booking with us, or which may prevent you from being able to travel to the cabin.
  • Please be aware, the cabin does not have internet access, wi-fi or cell phone signal. All electricity is provided by our limited solar power system. Guest access is through two (2) USB plugs.

Full Hosted Booking

The fully hosted booking includes your own guide who will look after you for the duration of the stay, preparing meals, lighting the fire, keeping it all tidy and assisting your enjoyment of the land.

Please advise all dietary requirements for your guests, including how many people these apply to. This includes allergies, intolerances, lifestyle choices (such as vegan, vegetarians) and religious restrictions. We will do our best to cater for these.
